Wholly Homeopathy Happenings

Updated: Sep 9, 2025

July 2025 Edition: by Wendy Dickens

Celebrations and Sun

July is synonymous with summer fun and summer heat. This month's social media series will hopefully give you some homeopathic tools to help you enjoy it to its fullest!

As we celebrate the birth of America, it can be particularly hard on our furry family members as well as those who have been through some of the awful realities of war.

There are a few homeopathic options for fear or panic from loud noises such as thunderstorms or fireworks. Here are four with some keynotes:

  • Aconitum napellus 200c when there is frank fear or panic.

  • Gelsemium sempervirens 30c when there is nervousness or fear building before an event and a desire to be alone.

  • Phosphorus 200c when there is sensitiveness and anxiety and a great tendency to be startled from noises.

  • Rescue Remedy is a proprietary blend of five Bach flower remedies that is useful for grief, trauma, crisis or stressful situations.

Vitamin D is good for our bodies and our minds, but too much sun can spell trouble for our skin. Remember, everything you put on your skin, which is your largest organ, goes into your bloodstream. Is sunscreen with all those chemicals really the best option?

As a fair skinned person, I have learned to develop a multi-faceted strategy when it comes to sun exposure.

  • Limit time in the sun, especially during peak times of day, when possible.

  • Wear good protective light-weight clothing and hats.

  • Take Sol 200c before, and during prolonged sun exposure, if needed.

Ouch! A sunburn can be not only hot, itchy and uncomfortable, but downright painful if it's quite severe.

There are a few ways to soothe a sunburn homeopathically:

  • Cantharis vesicatoria 30c or 200c is great for burning of many kinds

    including on the skin.

  • Urtica urens 30c is another wonderful choice for a burn

with a prickly or stinging sensation.

  • Calendula or Cantharis in mother tincture (herbal) form diluted in water or coconut oil can be applied topically to heal and soothe the skin.

Outside work or play in the high temps can lead to heat exhaustion or worse. Symptoms of heat exhaustion can include headache, profuse sweating, fatigue, light-headedness, and excessive thirst.

Homeopathy can help!

  • Belladonna 30c is indicated when there is sudden onset and a hot, red face with a pulsing headache.

  • If the eyes are glazed and blank and there is either a racing or a shallow pulse, consider Glonoinum 30c.

  • Aconitum 200c, similar to Belladonna, is indicated when there is a rapid onset of symptoms which may include feeling anxious, restless or dizzy from high heat.

Road trips and vacays are also a fun part of summer, but motion-sickness can put a damper on traveling. Homeopathy offers a natural option to over-the-counter drugs.

Don't let an upset tummy from long trips get you down. Try homeopathy!

  • Tabacum nicotiana 30c for motion sickness with nausea and a sinking feeling in the pit of the stomach.

  • Strongly indicated for motion sickness, Cocculus indicus 30c, is especially helpful when a sick headache is also present.

  • Combination products are also wonderful for motion sickness and are what I generally use for one of my family members. Boiron's NauseaCalm® is one such product and very effective.

Congratulations!

I want to take a moment to congratulate a few of my students! Five of them are about to begin a rich and fulfilling year of study in The Academy of Practical Homeopathy®. As a graduate of the program, I am excited about all they will learn as well as the ways they will grow and deepen their understanding of homeopathy. Best wishes to Andrea F, Cecilia J, Elizabeth N, Bernie P, and Colleen R!

Another of my students, Jane P, recently got the privilege of being interviewed for Joette Calabrese's podcast. She shared so many great success stories as she has used homeopathy for her family and to support her neighboring Amish community! You can read or listen to the episode on Joette's website under Podcast 144 or wherever you listen to podcasts.  Success Story Spotlight

This month's story comes to you from my family and it's one I had hoped to share with you back in May. Let me explain.

One of our sons has suffered with spring allergies for several years. Like clockwork in April his eyes begin to water and itch maddeningly, his nose alternately runs or gets congested, and he is quite miserable. In 2023 and as my knowledge of homeopathy began to grow exponentially in The Academy, I decided we were not going to simply treat the acute symptoms each spring but we were going to try to uproot them altogether. Sounds crazy, right? Not with homeopathy!

Unlike some of the other stories where I share exactly which remedies, potencies, and frequencies are used for the condition being discussed, chronic allergies are not quite as straightforward in the sense that the exact same protocol works for every person. For one thing, people get symptoms from a wide variety of allergens and respond to them in different ways. As a result, while there are some common remedies used, they aren't always given in the same way in every case.

As I said, we began in spring of 2023 with Calcarea carbonica 200c, eoD as the baseline remedy. I also decided on a nosode* that fit a great deal of our son's overall symptoms well and he was given that remedy in a 200c, once every other week. I was SO hopeful that by spring of 2024, he would be either symptom free or they would be markedly reduced, but that spring came and went with perhaps only a slight reduction in symptoms (it's hard to tell) and so we carried on as before since allergies can take a long time to uproot (To see some of the remedies we used for his acute symptoms, check out my social media posts from October 2024 on Facebook or Instagram).

This spring I was again hopeful; surely THIS would be the year! April began and he had no symptoms. I was cautiously optimistic. However, about two or three weeks in the watery and itchy eyes began to return. I confess, I was discouraged and wondered if he was destined to suffer each and every spring. Here's the thing though, even if that had been the case, the good news is we could still use the symptoms he was having to choose homeopathic medicines which did bring relief! In my opinion this is still vastly better than over the counter medicines or pharmaceutical drugs with harmful side effects and suppressive action (as opposed to healing action) which could lead to a host of other chronic health issues.

This, however, is not the rest of the story. As we were studying a particular nosode in my Mastery program in mid-May, these words leapt off the page, "Clarke noted that Psorinum cured more cases of hay fever than any other single remedy in his practice." One of the other Mastery students went on to share how this nosode when given three times, twelve hours apart in a 200c finished off a stubborn case of hay fever in a person she personally knew. As you may have guessed, that is exactly what I did for our son. In the week that followed we saw his symptoms melt away and then stop altogether. At first I didn't even believe it and went so far as to say to my husband that perhaps the timing of the nosode lined up with when our son's allergies were finished for the season anyway. He looked at me incredulously and said, "Wendy, he's outside playing football in the grass and the pollen counts are still very high. It's the homeopathy!"  He was right. Indeed, it was the homeopathy, and I am once again so very grateful.
